Hello!

I’m Alissa, and I am a UX designer. While studying graphic design at the University of Northern Iowa, I became increasingly interested in how people interacted with my designs, and how different individuals could understand the same piece in such different ways. At the urging of several professors, I began expanding my understanding of user experience by learning about the impact of design on accessibility.

I started working with an artist who shared their experience with interfaces after spending years in prison. They described it as if everyone else had been taught a rulebook on how to use phones and websites while they were gone. Design had advanced beyond their understanding, and they were struggling to catch up. Hearing this made me want to learn more about how interfaces are designed and optimized to better support all users. It also pushed me to further my education and pursue my master’s degree in UX Design.

Since entering the UX field, I’ve had the privilege of working on websites and designs for companies both big and small, engaging with diverse user groups and learning about their unique challenges and needs.

Outside of my professional life, I spend my time traveling, hiking, climbing, and learning everything I can about the world around me and the people within it.
